Youth at the YMCA: Summer Reminders
Summer at the YMCA is one of our favorite seasons; full of energy, laughter, and the joyful chaos that comes with young people discovering the power of movement. As the Wellness Floor and Group Exercise spaces get busier with school out, we want to offer a few helpful reminders to keep things safe, smooth, and fun for everyone.
Youth Fitness Training is a Must:
If your child is between the ages of 10–13 and is interested in using the Wellness Center or joining Group Exercise classes, they must complete a Youth Fitness Training (YFT) session first. This training helps them learn how to safely and confidently navigate our equipment, understand gym etiquette, and set a solid foundation for lifelong wellness.
Great news! Each YMCA in the Greater Omaha area offers several Youth Fitness Training classes every week, so there's sure to be a time and day that fits your family’s schedule. Just ask the Welcome Center or one of our Wellness Team members to help get your child signed up.
Dress for Success (and Safety):
Closed-toe athletic shoes are required at all times: no flip-flops or Crocs allowed on the Wellness Floor or in classes. We want our youth to be active and safe, and proper footwear plays a huge role in that.
Stay Hydrated, the Right Way:
Spill-proof, non-breakable bottles are allowed on the floor. But please leave open containers, cans of energy drinks, or uncovered cups at home. Hydration is important, but so is keeping our equipment clean and dry.
A Note on Phones:
We love that our youth members want to document their fitness journey, but lingering on a machine while texting or scrolling between sets is a no-go. Help us keep equipment available for all by reminding your child to be mindful of phone use and to share the space respectfully.
We’re Here to Help!
Our Wellness Team is always ready to support your child’s fitness journey. Whether they’re new to working out or ready to take it to the next level, we’re here to guide them every step of the way.
Let’s make this summer one of movement, motivation, and positive momentum. Thank you for being part of our YMCA community, we’re so excited to see our young members grow stronger in every way!
