YMCA of Greater Omaha Early Learning Centers

If you are looking for Omaha child care, look no further than the Y. YMCA Early Learning Centers are an important part of the impact the Y makes in our community every day. We know parents are looking for the best child care for their kids and our early learning centers are a place where children learn the building blocks they need to have the best possible start in their education. We get them to kindergarten ready to learn.

It is our philosophy that children learn about their world through hands-on play and exploration.  We are sensitive to growth and development of each child, and are mindful of diverse learners as we plan our instruction.  Our educators provide guidance and support as children become active thinkers, ask questions about what they are learning, explore and develop their interests as learners, develop positive self esteem, learn about healthy living, and learn to interact positively with one another.  We will help children reach their goals by providing activities that are developmentally and age appropriate, through hands-on exploration and play, large and small group instruction, and by providing a variety of choices for every style of learner.

Our teachers and staff are guided by our four core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and focus on supporting the families of the children in our care to strengthen and maintain healthy and happy families.

We we believe that the quality of children’s experiences while in our care is largely dependent on the quality of our teachers. Therefore, we carefully select our teachers based on their education, experience, passion, and ability to work with children and families. All staff participate in a comprehensive training program to prepare then to care for your child.  In addition, all employees of the YMCA receive training/certification in first aid and CPR, as well as a valuable child protection training which includes: child abuse and neglect prevention, response and reporting.  We also provide ongoing professional development opportunities to further their own learning through courses and trainings offered internally and outside of the Y.

We utilize research-based creative curriculum for each age group. This approach to teaching young children uses spontaneity and the ability to see and use everyday opportunities to help children solve problems, explore new materials, find answers to questions all while building relationships. The tenets of this framework includes creating a responsive environment, routines and experiences, individualizing, guiding behavior, and much more. It also includes a developmental continuum that links curriculum and individual child assessments.

We believe that all children should experience success.  We strive for a setting that provides children with opportunities to explore their environment within consistent, age-appropriate limits.  Our educators take a proactive approach to behavior management by modeling and incorporating positive communication, social, and emotional skills into the curriculum.  In doing so, we will help each child self-monitor and regulate their own behavior.

Quality early childhood development is dependent on the connection between parents and their care givers, and we know that nothing keeps parents happy like good communication and pictures of their children having fun and learning.  Teachers communicate daily with parents to ensure consistency and each location hosts regular parent involvement activities.  We also host parent/teacher conferences twice a year to discuss assessments and to see everything your child is learning.  In addition to these formal progress reviews, we are happy to meet informally any time to discuss your child’s needs.

Our full-day kids will learn in our age-appropriate, center-style school, allowing children to grow in all areas. The Y’s preschools and Early Learning Centers use the Creative Curriculum Gold, which is based on the latest research that the most important years in a child’s life are from birth to 5-years of age.
