Support the YMCA of Greater Omaha’s Food Drive
Donate non-perishable food items at a YMCA location near you now through Sunday, November 11.
All donations will go directly to Food Bank for the Heartland, helping ensure local families, especially those impacted by the pause in benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), have access to essential meals during this time. Together, we can show what community truly means.
Non-perishable food items such as the following will be accepted:
- Proteins such as canned chicken, tuna, salmon, and other fish
- Vegetables like peas, carrots, and green beans
- Fruits preferably packed in juice or light syrup
- Soups, stews, and chilly (healthy and hearty options)
- Pasta and pasta sauce (whole grain options are preferred)
- Rice, a versatile and long-lasting grain
- Peanut butter, a highly requested protein source
- Beans and lentils, dried or canned (both are excellent sources)
- Cooking essentials such as cooking oil, spices, and stock cubes
- Whole grains like whole-grain cereal, crackers, and oats
- Snacks including granola bars and kid-friendly, shelf-stable options
- Dairy alternatives such as powdered or long-life milk
- Infant formula (a critical and often-needed item)

Financial Assistance Program
What is the Financial Assistance Program?
The YMCA of Greater Omaha’s Financial Assistance Program provides families in need with financial support to participate in the Y’s membership and program activities.
How is the financial assistance amount be determined?
We have a sliding fee scale, based on total household income which assists in determining the amount of assistance.
How long does the financial assistance continue?
The need for financial assistance is reassessed every twelve months.
How is confidential information handled?
Only you and the assisting Y staff will have knowledge of the financial assistance application.
How quickly can I expect to receive financial assistance?
This will depend on how quickly you complete the Financial Assistance Application, gather the requested documents and turn in the application to the YMCA. After the financial assistance representative receives the information, you will receive a call within a week to ten days.
How do I apply?
Complete the confidential application form and return it to your YMCA’s Welcome Center staff. Please remember to include required documentation. (Most recent 1040 tax return and one months’ proof of income for all adults in household.)
May I do anything in return for this assistance?
Yes! The YMCA is a volunteer organization, and children and adults are encouraged to volunteer to help earn assistance. Also, our donors appreciate knowing how their contributions are used, so submitting a short note about how you have benefited from the Financial Assistance Program would be appreciated.
The Y is for people of all genders, faiths, races, abilities, ages, and incomes. We believe in providing membership and program services to all who desire to participate. Thanks to the United Way of the Midlands and the YMCA of Greater Omaha’s Strong Communities Campaign, financial assistance is available for those in need within our available resources.
