RENOVATION PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Sarpy YMCA has proudly served the Papillion, LaVista, Bellevue, and surrounding communities for over 25 years. The growth in population in these communities has required we adapt to better meet the increased demands on our space. The Sarpy YMCA renovation project included an extension of the existing Wellness Center through the reconfiguration of existing adjacent spaces as well as select enhancements to existing facility amenities. Upgrades to our facility amenities included converting previous program space into a second group fitness studio, remodeling the existing group fitness studio, refreshing the pool, and revitalizing our gymnasium. To minimize the impact on members, the renovation was completed in phases. Construction began in May 2022 and concluded in the winter of 2023.
We are thrilled to share that the interior renovation of the Sarpy Community YMCA is complete with the final upgrades including shades and sound panels added in Studio A and B, enhanced sound equipment and graphics to make the space more vibrant.
The front lobby restrooms received a renewed look and the women’s and men’s locker rooms were repainted and regrouted to improve the look of the space and improve the member experience. The facility received a new wayfinding package that reflects the renovation design.
Thank you to all of our members, participants, staff and volunteers for your patience and excitement as we worked through this vital project. We are excited to better serve our community as an established and trusted hub of sports and wellness that contributes to the quality of life in Sarpy County.

The Sarpy YMCA originally opened its doors to the community in 1997. Its construction was a true community effort and 25 years later, the Y remains unwavering in its commitment to make sure the next generation has access to programs and services that enhance their quality of life. A significant interior renovation project is necessary to ensure that the Sarpy YMCA can continue to serve its current members by providing the best possible experience.
Planned work at the Sarpy YMCA as part of this reinvestment project will include:
►The Plan: Reconfiguring the Floor plan of the Wellness Center
The Impact: Create an expansive, bright, open space for all to experience the health and well-being benefits a YMCA membership can provide whether they are working out independently or with a personal trainer. Members can anticipate additional strength equipment and an improved layout.
►The Plan: Repurposing Existing Program Space into a Second Group Exercise Studio
The Impact: Dedication of a second space to accommodate cycling, yoga and other formats which will allow the Sarpy Y to improve the member experience with better lighting, and ventilation.
►The Plan: Cosmetic Upgrades to the Current Group Fitness Studio
The Impact: Members will enjoy a welcoming and vibrant space with a lifted ceiling to create an airier and more open atmosphere, upgraded sound system to amplify their workout experience and a refreshed space where they can meet their goals.

Replacing the gym curtain divider to continue to maximize program space while reducing shared acoustics. Court flooring will be completely resurfaced with added pickle ball court lines to maximize sport variety for all ages.
►The Plan: Exterior and Lobby Upgrades
The Impact: Members will feel welcome when they enter the parking lot and enjoy updated landscaping and a refreshed main entrance to the facility. Modern flooring in the lobby, Community Room and main hallway will pull the overall facility upgrades together with a cohesive renewed look.

This will serve as both a hallway and fitness overflow zone outfitted with limited equipment and soft seating to encourage relationship building and connecting before and after workouts.
Renovations will better enable The Sarpy YMCA to continue to strengthen our community by:
Substantially modifying the size of the Wellness Center to create an expansive, bright, open space for all to experience the health and well-being benefits a YMCA membership can provide.
Create an additional group fitness studio space for year-round class offering to further support the goals of our members and their unique wellness journeys.
Enhancing the experience in our gymnasium, pool and childwatch where kids and families connect, learn new skills, grow and thrive.
This capital reinvestment will help remove barrier for everyone,-all ages and abilities-to be physically active and allow for the expansion of vital programs-helping Sarpy County residents and beyond, live their healthiest lives.
The work started in May 2022 and is projected to be completed within eight months.
No. The cost of renovating The Sarpy YMCA will be funded through mixed funding sources.
Yes. While some spaces within the facility may be temporarily unavailable or available in a reduced or modified capacity, the Sarpy YMCA will remain fully open for the duration of the project.
A portion of the parking lot may be reserved for construction vehicles as needed according to each phase of the construction. We will keep members informed of any parking disruption and will work to minimize inconvenience to members.
When we evaluated scope of the project we prioritized areas that would have the biggest and broadest member impact. While we acknowledge that the locker rooms are dated, we feel that the fitness and program space enhancements will best help our community meet their goals and live healthier lives.
We do not anticipate extensive impact on childcare programs during the renovation. We are committed to offering our Childwatch services, out of school time program and summer day camp as we can depending on the status of the construction. Please visit our website for project updates and program changes.
The women’s and men’s locker rooms will be repainted, new fixtures will be installed and the tile will get regrouted to enhance the member experience.
