YMCA of Greater Omaha Names Deterding as Next President and CEO
Deterding will be the first woman to lead the YMCA of Greater Omaha
[OMAHA, NEBRASKA] – Rebecca Deterding has been named president and chief executive officer of the YMCA of Greater Omaha, following an extensive nationwide candidate search, effective immediately. With a professional background in finance, strategic planning, operations, and leadership development, Deterding brings dynamic senior leadership and executive experiences to the organization. Over the last seven years, Deterding has served as the YMCA of Greater Omaha’s chief financial officer and became interim CEO in August 2021 after the previous CEO, Chris Tointon, departed and joined the YMCA of Middle Tennessee.
“Rebecca’s passion for people, capacity to lead strategic change through informed decision making, and ability to inspire leaders at all levels makes her the best fit for the future of the YMCA of Greater Omaha,” shared metro YMCA Board Chair, Dan McLaughlin. “Rebecca has led the team through COVID recovery strategies while continuing to build and maintain critical relationships in our community, which will enhance the Y now and for years to come.”
Deterding holds a Business Accounting degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Master's in Business Administration from Bellevue University. Before joining the YMCA professional team, she served at Summitsoft Corporation, a technology company. For over ten years, she held a variety of positions including operations, sales and marketing, and chief financial officer.
“I don’t take this position lightly because we are at such a pivotal point in our organization. As we continue to recover from the impact of the last two years, I remain excited and hopeful for what the future will bring and look forward to setting that strategic vision with our dedicated staff and volunteers. Being from the Midwest, I love this community. I am honored to serve in a place that I call home in such a meaningful way,” Deterding shared.
Deterding will develop a transition plan to backfill her finance and technology role and noted that identifying the ideal talent will take some time. She is looking forward to meeting and collaborating with community stakeholders this spring as she fully transitions from her dual leadership role into her CEO position.
As president and CEO, Deterding will be taking on the responsibilities of a 154-year legacy of the YMCA of Greater Omaha – including ten locations, five early learning centers, and three youth achievement sites; making history as the first woman to lead the organization.
